Small businesses with a few hundred employees or smaller, especially those small businesses with just a handful of employees, have insufficient team members to show a diversity profile that matches our society. A business’s success is dependent on having quality resources that can get the job done with as little extra overhead as possible. That doesn’t mean you should exclude a candidate simply because they will introduce overhead though. However, this is only part of the conversation we need to have.
Small businesses, especially privately owned, very often do not have a board of directors to oversee operations let alone a large board that can be diversified. It’s also likely these small businesses, especially minority-owned, do not have sufficient cash resources to hire expensive consulting firms to guide every decision they need to make. What if in lieu of a diversified board of directors, we create a novel approach to provide an equitable alternative? What might that alternative look like? carpasean created DEIB Councils to provide that alternative approach.
DEIB Councils is a community outreach program and community-based initiative to bring local civic and community leaders, small and medium business owners, and enterprise executives together in an all new forum. Our inaugural council will be based in Irving, Texas led by carpasean President and Founder Christopher Cost. He’s bringing his colleagues, business contacts, and community connections together to form a diverse group that represents the many faces of our country to provide ongoing awareness to issues and needs that small businesses face or can change.
