The Irving, TX DEIB Council is the first council and was formed on October 1, 2020. It is the model by which carpasean is basing the entire initiative to eventually spawn additional councils in other communities where we have a presence. We also will be inviting other businesses and organizations to sponsor a council for their community which will follow the charter and foundation of this chapter, but also lead its chapter in the right social justice voice for their respective community. Our vision is to continually rise to the challenge and find representation for every voice that needs to be heard, give it a platform to present and lead, and drive change through our entire circle of influence.
If you would like to participate in the Irving, TX DEIB Council and be part of this initiative, please send an email of introduction and intent to BeTheChange@deibcouncils.org. Please be sure to specify which primary and additional social justice groups you wish to represent. Intersectionality is real, and we want that truth to be realized through our efforts.
Sponsor Delegates
There is 1 coordinator, 1 secretary, and 1 aide per council which are appointed by the sponsoring business or organization from within or without their immediate team. The coordinator’s primary role is to facilitate the council’s meetings and represent their individual council at DEIB Councils global meetings and events. The secretary’s primary role is to take minutes, keep/disseminate records and cases, and serve as the backup to the coordinator in their absence. The aide serves the council at large with various administrative tasks and support as needed. The Irving, TX Council is sponsored by carpasean and is led by:
Christopher Cost, Coordinator [LinkedIn] [Professional Speaker]
carpasean LLC, President and Founder
White, Male, LGBTQ+, Inter-racial/Inter-generational/Immigrant Relationship
{To Be Assigned}, Secretary
{To Be Assigned}, Aide
Council Chairs
There is 1 council chair elected from each social justice group (the closest parallel is to think of these as committees). The role of the council chair is to lead their respective social justice group and ensure each voice is given representation in the council.
Social Justice Groups
The Irving, TX DEIB Council seeks to discover each voice that needs to be heard and find representation that can speak experientially, compassionately, passionately, and justly for their special interest group. We are not here to fight against the rights of males or white persons. We want representation from these groups as much as any other group. Our goal is to form a harmony that is fair and just for the whole so that we may in turn lend our collective experience to our small business owners and community leaders to improve our society for the better.
As our council continues to grow and do work in our community, we will uncover more social justice groups. Our immediate effort is to call on all small business owners, community leaders, and enterprise executives that would like to volunteer to serve on this council and represent the voice of one of the following:
- Gender Equity and Parity
- Indigenous Peoples
- Black, Brown, and African- American
- Racial Equity and Justice
- LGBTQ+
- Immigration
- Mental Health
- Disabled
DEI Consulting and Coaching Firms
There are many DEI consultants and coaches to assist businesses. These firms are specially trained in social justice, psychology, racism, etc. But, who assists them is staying aware of what is happening outside the classroom? DEIB Councils invites all DEI consulting and coaching firms to send a representative to observe our meetings. This representative will have no role on the council but will be able to ask questions and offer feedback. The opportunity we offer your firm is to stay aware of and fresh on the issues “on the street” and “in our businesses.”
